Music, the only thing that gets me through my workday! Ok, not really, but I was trying to come up with a motivational quote. You know, one that could be turned into a meme or something. Obviously, my creativity has flown off into the unknown (hopefully it’s not a one-way trip), but music definitely holds a key to happiness for me.
To clarify, I’m not musical. I’ve never played an instrument, and although I try not to, I tend to sing (off-key) every single song that comes on the radio while I’m driving. If I don’t know the words, eh, I’ll make something up.
So this musical post is inspired by one of my favorite places, Treehouse Brewing Company. I’m often there and hear unfamiliar songs (wow, there and hear in the same sentence, I guess my inner Seuss has made its first appearance). Sometimes, these songs have the power to erase all the thoughts that are written in my head. I listen to every word as if it’s the last thing I’ll ever hear, and then I’m an echo with the first person I see, “What song is this? What song is this? Please, please, please, what song is this, this, this?”
The last time this happened, the person I was with found the song pretty quickly. Thank you, S! Now, I’m not a big country music fan, but this song … Oh, wait, I haven’t told you the song yet. It’s Toes, by the Zac Brown Band. I love songs that make me just stop and (smell the roses), um, no, I love songs that make me just stop and think, and the verse below made me do just that.
I’m just gon’ drive up by the lake
And put my ass in a lawn chair, toes in the clay
Not a worry in the world, a PBR on the way
Life is good today
Life is good today
I thought about these lyrics for a few days, and finally said to myself, “What the hell is PBR?” You’ll be glad to know that I found out. Maybe you already know this, but PBR is Pabst Blue Ribbon (beer), and you know what, I’m going to try that damn PBR. All because of Zac Brown and the others who wrote this thought-provoking song. P.S. He also mentions Jaeger, but I’m a beer kind of gal. P.S.S. or P.P.S? I tried it (see below. You can’t tell that it’s PBR, but they have it on draft at this awesome place called SKOB.) And hey, it’s fine, but remember I’m a beer kind of gal, and this beer is light. I highly recommend it, though, if you’re a light beer kind of person, which is a total compliment. It’s just not me.

So, to stay true to this “dating” blog, next time you’re on a date, maybe play a song. You can use toes if you want. Then ask your date what they think of it. If it’s a two-minute conversation (well, disclaimer, this isn’t a dating advice site. I mean, I have no business giving advice on such a topic), but if it’s a two-minute conversation, maybe try a different song, or a different date. It’s your choice! And before you comment (I hope you comment), I know this is a stupid idea, but I just think we need to talk more. Maybe playing a song and talking about it for 10-15 minutes is a great way to get to know someone. Can you talk about a song for 10-15 minutes? I think so, especially if it’s toes.
I hope life is good to you today. I hope it’s good to you every day!
